Tonsil Stones can be removed by gentle manipulation using a cotton-tipped swab or other clean soft object. Care must be taken not to obstruct the airway or injure the fragile oral tissue. This tonsil stone was easily removed using surgical forceps. These collections of retained food matter can cause sore throat and bad breath. In some patients the cause recurrent throat infections or tonsillitis. Sometimes they will be treated surgically to reduce the crypts that retain food matter. Sometimes they are completely removed.
