Plantar Wart Treatment | Auburn Medical Group

Plantar Wart Treatment is done with liquid nitrogen probe cyrotherapy in this video to cause frostbite injury to the virus-infected skin. This will kill the infected tissue and allow uninfected skin to replace the wart as healing occurs over the following weeks. A second or third treatment may be required to complete eliminate the wart.

Other treatments explained by Dr. Vaughan in this video include duct tape, surgery, and over-the-counter salicylic acid treatments.

Alligator Forceps Ear Wax Removal | Auburn Medical Group

Ear wax removal is completed with alligator forceps. This tool is very useful for removal of ribbons of cerumen and some foreign objects from small orifices like ear canals and nasal passages. Most facilities performing ear wax removal will have a pair of similar forceps.

Epistaxis Device for Nose Bleeds | Auburn Medical Group

The Rapid Rhino is an inflatable device which applies pressure to stop bleeding (tamponade) from a bloody nose (epistaxis). Use of an inflatable device like this is how to stop a nose bleed which does not allow cautery and which does not involve arteries in the posterior nasal cavity.

Home treatment to stop a nose bleed would include holding the head upright and pinching on the end and sides of the nose for 20 minutes straight, without letting up. This can be repeat if it does not work the first time. Medical attention should be sought if it is not successful at stopping the nose bleed after the second attempt.

Basal Cell Carcinoma | Auburn Medical Group

We do a shave biopsy on a patient’s face to confirm the presence of basal cell carcinoma, nodular type. There was cancer remaining on the edges of the sample. This area will be re-examined in the coming months. Any area suspicious for recurrence of the cancer can be treated with liquid nitrogen cyrotherapy at that time. This is much simpler and less expensive than the Mohs surgery that would have been needed had this turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma.

Nose Shave Biopsy Results in a Brown Noser | Auburn Medical Group

This shave biopsy skin biopsy of a nose tip results in making our patient a literal brown noser. The biopsy of the nose tip lesion is done to obtain a lesion for evaluation of possible diagnosis of cancer. Hopefully the entire lesion will be removed if cancer is diagnosed. The brown powder is a substance called Wound Seal which polymerizes (interconnects like a chain) when it comes in contact with the patient’s wound, causing a barrier to cover the wound like a natural scab would. The advantage is that it occurs immediately instead of taking hours. This lowers risk of bleeding and infection in the healing of the wound. We will post another video of the biopsy of the lesion on the side of the face.

Umbilicoliths Are REAL | Auburn Medical Group

Umbilicoliths ( “navel stones,” “umboliths,” or “omphaloliths”) are accumulations of keratinous material (dead skin) sebum (skin oil) and dirt in the umbilicus (belly button). Umbolith removal is performed by simply applying traction to the stone to remove it from its attachment to the skin. They are rarely a cause for medical concern. Mostly, they just inspire people to clean their umbilicus regularly.

Conjuctivitis | Auburn Medical Group

Bacterial Conjunctivitis or pink eye is evaluated using a fluorescein stain to rule out other more serious infections or injuries to the eye. Herpes Ophthalmicus is one viral infection which would be confirmed with fluorescein staining to alert us to the need for treatment by an Ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Viral conjunctivitis does not require antibiotic treatment, but symptoms are improved with over-the-counter artificial tears. Bacterial conjunctivitis is treated with antibiotic drops or ointments.

Dilated Pore of Winer Dr. Pimple Popper Extractor Test | Auburn Medical Group

We use the Dr. Sandra Lee Dr. Pimple Popper comedone extractor to pop this dilated pore of Winer. There are various means of extraction or “popping” of comedones, blackheads, and dilated pores of Winer. Dr. Sandra Lee (aka Dr. Pimple Popper) has a great channel showing even more techniques than we demonstrate on our channel. No true “popaholic” can get by without watching Dr. Sandra Lee.
